Report 004 : The work from home setup

The work from home setup consist of 2 monitors which can be extended to 3 when I open the laptop, an external usb mic which I think needs to be changed to a condenser mic, usb speaker, keyboard, mouse, printer, electric fan and mosquito light.

The last 2 I consider to the most important as the air conditioning unit is not in operation during the day, aside from cost the windows are not clear glass so fresh air and a view of the outside world is needed.

I started with just one monitor and the keyboard which I took from the office when the lockdown started, the company I work told us we could take it home with us while we work from home. After a month, I realised I need one more monitor and since I am unable to go back to the office to pick-up my second monitor there, I bought one from Lazada.

I then bought a speaker, twice, the first one had good audio output but the mic was horrible. The second one had even better audio output but still the mic was not up to scratch. The usb mic fixed that and I'll see after a few more podcasts and calls if I need to replace that with a condenser mic.

You can also see a printer on the photo and at first I thought I would really need one, then the challenge was everybody else thought the same and so there is very limited models and stocks to choose from. Evaluating the cost vs. expected usage, I determined that a lower cost non-refillable inkjet printer would be suitable as I will not be printing regularly, my usage would be occasionally. Even though the cost of the ink would be more expensive in comparison to a refillable printer, the non-refillable printer will be using a new print head every time the ink is replaced and this is suitable for non-regular usage as ink will dry and print heads will be affected. The refillable printers will certainly be more cost effective and suitable if one prints on a regular basis, daily or every few days.

The apple watch is no longer as useful as before as I use apple pay to pay for everything before covid, from transport to grocery. Now, I still use it when I go for a grocery run, but other than that, it is very effective at counting steps and tracking my activity as I sit and work and walk the few steps to the kitchen and toilet.

My Tumi bags are also just gathering dust, together with my shirts and trousers. Although, there are times that I wear my shirts and trousers just so that I have an excuse to wash them as upkeep so as it does not deteriorate or discolor. I placed a few dehumidifier tablets in the closet and hopefully that helps keep molds, mildew and other stuff away from the work clothes and the bags. The same with shoes, the handful of leather shoes and sneakers I have are now clocking time instead of steps, waiting for their time to see light once again post covid. I should really clean those every so often, leather shoes tends to dry-up and get hard when not used or maintained.
